Post-Stroke Empowering Program

We know that life post-stroke isn’t easy, but exercising post stroke can reduce stroke risk factors, decrease risk for cardiovascular disease, and decrease your risk for stroke recurrence, thus improving life-long wellness. The Rappahannock Area YMCA’s Empowering Program is a safe, accessible and affordable community exercise opportunity for you with a focus on wellness and self-empowerment. This six week program is designed to help empower you to lead a healthier, happier lifestyle. We look forward to working with you!

About the Program

The Post-Stroke Empowering Program is an open enrollment program, where you will meet twice weekly with a certified personal trainer for 30 minute sessions. These sessions are all tailored to your specific needs and abilities with a focus on increasing strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and balance. Our ultimate goal is to help you improve your quality of life post-stroke and be able to return to your independence in the day to day activities that you enjoy.

Enrollment Process

When you enroll in the program, you will meet with an in-house physical therapist for a pre-assessment to clear you for exercise and so that your trainer can prepare an appropriate exercise program for your needs and level of mobility.

Biosway Testing

Throughout program, you will take a biosway test at the YMCA which takes a measurement of your balance and helps you track your progression throughout the program.

The value of the Post-Stroke Empowering Program can’t be understated. It has impacted my life by helping me to be able to continue to exercise and get stronger. This program allows us to do things that we simply couldn’t do otherwise.
