Our evidence based and evidence informed Community Health Programs promote wellness, reduce risk for disease and help you reclaim your health. These programs are designed for people with or at risk for chronic diseases, including Parkinson’s, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, stroke, or any condition that can impact function of life.
Eat healthier, increase physical activity, lose weight and decrease your risk for developing type 2 diabetes in this encouraging small-group program. In a classroom setting, a trained lifestyle coach will help you change your lifestyle by learning about healthy eating, physical activity and other behavior changes over the course of 25 one hour sessions. After the initial 16 core sessions, you will meet bi-weekly for 3 sessions and then monthly for added support to help maintain your progress.
Improve your heart health and learn how to monitor your blood pressure with individualized support from a Healthy Heart Ambassador. The program focuses on regulated home self-monitoring of one’s blood pressure using proper measuring techniques, individualized support and nutrition education for better blood pressure management.
Life post-stroke isn’t easy, but exercising post stroke can reduce stroke risk factors, decrease risk for cardiovascular disease, and decrease your risk for stroke recurrence, thus improving life-long wellness. Our Empowering Program is a safe, accessible and affordable six week program with a focus on wellness and self-empowerment.
Don’t know where to start? Lifelong Essentials for Activity & Nutrition (LEAN) supports you in your journey to becoming more active and eating smarter for healthy weight loss. We’ll focus on ways to tip the calorie balance, mindfulness, and positive self-talk. Class is group discussion-based with an in-session physical activity component and delivered over 12 weekly, ninety-minute sessions.
Enhance®Fitness is an evidence-based group exercise program for older adults that uses simple, easy-to-learn movements that motivate individuals (particularly those with arthritis) to stay active throughout their life. EnhanceFitness has been nationally recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living, and the National Council on Aging.
Pedaling a bicycle may change the life of someone with Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35% reduction of symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bike at a rapid pace. Classes are driven by fast-paced music, and participants at every level are offered the challenge of improving their performance on an ongoing basis. Participants share a common bond in a socially supportive environment.
Join Dr. Wilson Cook, MD at the Massad Family YMCA for Walk with a Doc! Dr. Cook will be walking on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 9:00 am. Walk with a Doc is a walking program for everyone interested in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle. You’ll take a few minutes to learn about a current health topic from a healthcare professional, then spend the rest of the hour enjoying a healthy walk and fun conversation. It’s a great way to get out, get active, and enjoy all the benefits that come from walking. Walk your own pace and distance.
Walk With Ease is an evidence-based program that has been proven to help people with arthritis or other related conditions reduce pain, increase balance, strength and walking pace, and improve overall health. The program will help motivate you to get in great shape and allow you to walk safely and comfortably.
