Legacy Society

Together we can ensure the Rappahannock Area YMCA’s doors are open for future generations.

Serving the Underserved

Imagine the following scenarios: You are a single parent of three school-aged children. Your family can no longer care for your children after school while you finish the workday. You desperately need an affordable after-school care program that provides your children with a safe and nurturing environment. However, the providers you contacted want hundreds of dollars weekly. Where will you go? Who will look after your children?

Or, perhaps you’ve recently suffered a stroke. Your doctor wants you to consult with a therapist and rehab trainer. However, your insurance will not cover the therapy, and you live on a fixed income. How will you get the help you need?

Here, at the Rappahannock Area YMCA, we believe one of our responsibilities is to help people in situations similar to the scenarios presented above. Each year, through our Open Doors Program, we distribute over $750,000 in financial scholarships to support families and individuals. These scholarships provide relief to those needing access to our wellness centers, programming, and childcare services. Offering this assistance helps to fulfill our vision of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

The Rappahannock YMCA, which consists of four major facilities to service the entire Fredericksburg region, is a pillar in our community. The YMCA Endowment Fund establishes a foundation to maintain and preserve the YMCA’s crucial services for future generations and remain an important part of our community.

As Community Needs Grow, So Does the Need for the YMCA

Since its inception in 1973, The Rappahannock Area YMCA has been committed to supporting the communities of the greater Fredericksburg region. Our founders understood the need to establish the precedence of giving back. And, to co-inside with the opening of the Massad branch in 1982, our founders established Camp Sunshine – a summer day camp for individuals with disabilities.

Five decades later, the Rappahannock Area YMCA serves thousands of families annually through six-core impact programs: Bright Beginnings, The Jon Fried Tennis & Education Academy, Open Doors, The Power Scholars Academy, Second-Grade Learn-to-Swim, and our Special Needs Program.

With Your Help, We Can Continue to Be of Service to Our Community

As our area continues to recover from the pandemic and experiences more growth, we will see an increased demand for our facilities and services. The establishment of the Legacy Endowment will help solidify the Rappahannock Area YMCA as a community service-oriented leader for future generations. The creation of the endowment is a proactive measure taken today that will help increase financial stability during future economic downturns and provide for emergency needs at our branches. Another benefit of the endowment is that it will give new and consistent funding to critical areas of service that the YMCA provides.

Funding dedicated to the Legacy Endowment will support a variety of areas throughout the YMCA, such as:

• Facility Upgrades

• General Operating/Open Doors Financial Assistance

• Special Needs Programming

• Youth Programming and Scholarships

We need your help to make the services of the Rappahannock Area YMCA available for generations to come! Today, we ask that you prayerfully consider a significant gift to our endowment. We understand that a gift of this magnitude will look different to everyone and are happy to help discuss various giving avenues that best meet your circumstances. Please review our Ways to Give page for more information about making your donation.
