Our Mission and Focus

The mission of the YMCA is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Our History

In October of 1973, Dr. Louis B. Massad presented the idea to establish a YMCA in our community at a Rotary Club meeting. Later that month a group of interested people held the first meeting of the newly founded YMCA. The Rappahannock Area YMCA was incorporated and received its charter through the National YMCA in 1974. In January of 1982, the Rappahannock Area YMCA opened its first branch on Butler Road in Falmouth. The facility included a 25-meter indoor pool, family locker rooms and multi-purpose rooms for aerobics, youth programs and a weight room. This branch would later be named the Massad Family YMCA after Dr. Massad.

A Growing Cause

In 1999 the Rappahannock Area began serving Stafford County Public Schools with our School Age Childcare Program. We now serve 37 schools in Stafford and Spotsylvania Counties and provide care at our branches in King George and Caroline Counties. The Spotsylvania Family YMCA opened its doors on July 23, 2003 with a full facility: Gymnasium, pool, wellness/fitness center, aerobics/group fitness studio, spinning room, youth classrooms, Kidz Corner nursery, pavilion and inclusive playground. The facility was renamed the Ron Rosner Family YMCA of Spotsylvania County in 2009.

Thanks to the support and partnership of King George County, the King George Y opened in 2008 with a full facility: Gymnasium, pool, wellness/fitness center, aerobics/group fitness, spinning, youth classrooms, Kidz Spot area, playground/pavilion, and locker rooms.
2014: Caroline Family YMCA

The Caroline Family YMCA opened its doors in 2014 with a full facility: Gymnasium, pool, wellness/fitness center, aerobics/group fitness studio, spinning room, locker rooms, youth classrooms, and Kidz Corner nursery.
